![]() ![]() When he was a youngster, David spent a lot of time at Elkin Memorial Park (the old one beside Elkin waterworks) where they had planned activities for the kids in the summertime. This is reminiscent of her mother Patsy who constantly tagged behind her owner, Bud Lanning, when he was growing up. At times, this caused problems and complicated David’s life a bit. She was his shadow wherever David went, Nancy followed. She adored David he was her lord and master, her caregiver, her buddy, and her constant companion. My recollections of her as a pup are vague it is of her life as a mature, fully-grown animal that the memories of this remarkable dog come pouring in. ![]() ![]() She was middle-sized, light brown or tan, and had white markings on her head, neck, and paws she was a beautiful animal. The only explanation I have for this is that Nancy’s mother and/or grandmother must have mated with more than one animal because Nancy was definitely not a chihuahua. The other one, Nancy, looked just like her mother Patsy except she was much larger. Patsy had a litter of three puppies sired by a chihuahua two of the puppies were definitely chihuahuas. All of the other puppies were tiny chihuahuas, but Nancy’s mother, Patsy, was much larger and looked more like a hound terrier mix. Her mother came from a litter of chihuahua puppies but looked nothing like a chihuahua. Nancy’s lineage, like everything else about her, was unique. She was, and grew to be, more like a homo sapien than a mere canine her intelligence was mind boggling, and her personality absolutely irresistible.ĭavid decided to call her Nancy she was his friend and companion and a beloved member of our family from the time David was in kindergarten until he was a sophomore in college. We agreed, and it was a wise decision because she became an important and irreplaceable member of the Harris household. He excitedly brought her in one day, holding her carefully and tenderly in his arms because she was a tiny, newly-weaned puppy, and wanted to know if he could keep her. She was given to my son David when he was just a little tyke by our friend and neighbor, Mrs. Of all the dogs that I have known and owned (and there have been many of the latter because I come from a family of dog aficionados, the most delightful and, by far, the most intelligent, was a brown and white mixed breed called Nancy. ![]()
